Man and woman hospitalised after motorcycle struck kerb in Wicklow crash

The road is currently closed for technical examination by forensic collision investigators and local diversions are in place.

Two people have been hospitalised following a serious single-vehicle collision in Co Wicklow.

The incident occurred on the the R772 Arklow shortly after 12:30am, when a motorcycle struck a pavement kerb and the driver and pillion passenger fell from the vehicle.

The driver and passenger made their way home but then the driver, a man in his 50s, collapsed and was taken to St Vincent's Hospital where he is in a serious condition.

The passenger, a woman in her 40s, was also taken to St Vincent's Hospital where she is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The road is currently closed for technical examination by forensic collision investigators and local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are now appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.

In a statement, a Garda spokesperson said: "Any road users or pedestrians who were in the vicinity of the R772, at exit 20 from the M11 southbound travelling towards Arklow town this morning, Saturday 30th December, 2023 between 00.15 hours and 00.45 hours and who may have camera footage (including dash cam) is asked to make this available to investigating gardaí.
