Van driver, 30s, dies following collision in Cavan on Saturday night

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision in Co Cavan on Saturday night.

A man in his 30s has died following a single-vehicle collision in Co Cavan.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the collision which occurred on Saturday night on the R194 at Finaway, between Ballyjamesduff and Killyfassy Cross.

The man was killed after the van he was driving left the road and struck a wall.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body has since been removed to Cavan General Hospital.

He was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

Units from Cavan and Baileboro Garda stations attended the scene along with local ambulance and fire services.

Traffic diversions are in place this morning on the R194 between Ballyjamesduff and Killyfassy Cross to allow for a technical examination to be conducted by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

They are also appealing to those with video footage, including dash-cam, from the R194 at Finaway, between Ballyjamesduff and Killyfassy Cross, around the time of the collision to make this available to them.

It is the second collision to occur this weekend after a man in 20s died in Cork City on Saturday morning. 

The collision, involving a motorcycle, occurred at approximately 10.10am between Junctions 9 and 10 on the N40/South Ring Road eastbound.
