An autopsy after the death of an Irish woman in New York has revealed she died from a gunshot wound of the head and neck, the New York Chief Medical Examiner has confirmed.

Denise Zaitschek, nee Morgan, 39, was found dead in her house in Queens in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Her partner, Joed Taveras, 33, was also found dead in the house, at Glendale close to Kew Gardens and Forest Hills, with a gun beside him.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner told the Irish Examiner that investigators have determined the exact cause of deaths of the couple.

The death of Mr Taveras was the result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound of the head, while Ms Morgan died as a result of ā€œhomicideā€.

Emergency services were called to the house in Queens when neighbours heard an argument followed by gunshots.

Ms Morgan, who was separated from her husband, had been living in New York for the past five years.

Her daughter was not in the house at the time of the shooting.
