Two people die in house fire in Cavan

Two people have died in a house fire that happened in the early hours of Sunday morning in Co Cavan. 

Gardaí and emergency services rushed to the scene of the incident in the Ballyjamesduff area at around 2am. 

The blaze was extinguished by the fire services. 

A woman in her 80s, and a man in his 50s were pronounced dead at the scene. 

Their bodies have since been taken to the mortuary in Cavan General Hospital where a post-mortem will take place in due course. 

The scene of the fire is currently preserved for gardaí to carry out a technical examination. 

"The Coroner has been notified," a garda spokesperson told the Irish Examiner. 

"Enquiries are ongoing."
