A woman who died tragically on a boat after it caught fire in Leitrim was a member of An Garda Siochana.

Deirdre (Dee) Finn, who was attached to the Dun Laoghaire garda station, passed away after the boat fire in the early hours of Monday morning in Carrick-on-Shannon.

The scene is currently preserved and the boat has been removed to a secure location.

A family liason officer has been provided for Ms Finn's family.

A garda statement confirmed the news on Monday evening, with a spokesperson saying : "Garda Management will provide supports to Deirdre's family and her colleagues locally and within the wider organisation where required.
