Funeral of toddler struck by Jeep takes place in Dublin

The heartbroken family of 21-month-old Brandon Thomas Byrne gathered at the Church of St Philip the Apostle, Mountview in Clonsilla to say goodbye to ‘a wonderful little boy who always had a smile on his face’.

A funeral notice stated that Brandon died surrounded by his family who “love and cherish him”.

Brandon died after he was hit by a Jeep in Ballinagare, Co Roscommon shortly after 9am on Friday..

He had been holidaying with family in the Ballingare area before the tragic accident on Friday morning. He received medical treatment at the scene but was later pronounced dead.

His body was taken to the mortuary at University Hospital Galway where a post-mortem took place.

Friends of the family expressed their condolences online, saying that Brandon was such “a wonderful little boy who always had a smile on his face and was the light of all our lives.” The boy was “the most beautiful little light and adorable son of Louise Kehir and Andrew Byrne and cherished grandson of James, Noelene and Fran,” according to his funeral notice.

Brandon’s tragic death was described by a local senator in Roscommon as ‘heart-breaking’ for the families involved.

Senator Eugene Murphy said: “Everybody throughout the county and locally is absolutely shocked by this terrible tragedy and our hearts go out to both families. The sad reality is that a young child has lost his life and our prayers and thoughts are with everyone affected by this.” Brandon was buried in Mulhuddart Cemetery yesterday following Mass of the Angels.
