Family warns about safe disposal of helium balloons after tragic death of Luke, 8

Luke Harper, who died last year following a tragic incident with a balloon left over from his birthday party.

The parents of a young Dublin boy who died after inhaling helium from a birthday balloon have warned other families to make sure they safely dispose of any material containing the gas to prevent a similar tragedy.

Luke Ramone Harper, 8, from Clonlara Road, Ringsend, suffered fatal brain injuries after being overcome by helium after he placed an 8-shaped balloon had been bought for his birthday party a week earlier over his head.
