Scientists have analysed what is thought to be the world's oldest DNA – recovered from mammoth remains that are up to 1.2m years old.

Researchers from Sweden recovered small amounts of DNA from the teeth of three mammoth specimens unearthed from the Siberian permafrost in the 1970s.
