Global movie giant Walt Disney Studios is to film a major musical in Ireland later this year.
A casting call is going out for dancers of all types and experience for the major production planned to start rehearsals in mid-March with production to begin during the summer.
The Studios are behind some of the recent biggest hits such as the animated movieand the upcoming live-action remake of with Halle Berry and Javier Bardem.
In their call across movie sites, the world-famous studios said that they, ”…are looking for technically trained dancers for an upcoming musical feature film to be shot in Ireland.
"Seeking dancers to play characters ranging from 18 years to 60 years - all ethnicities, shapes and sizes are welcome".
The description adds that there will be elements of ballet, waltz and jazz with men having to have the skills to lift ladies in the air.
“Strong tap dance skills are a plus. Dancers will be hired locally from Ireland,” the details finish.
There are no details yet as to what the film project will be, but given Disney's recent desire in remaking dated global hits, it may be a remake of old Irish hits such as perhaps even, The Quiet Man or the Irish set musical Darby O'Gill and the Little People.
Rehearsals are to start on the Disney production in March with production to take place in the summer, pandemic conditions allowing. The casting is being run by renowned Irish movie and theatre choreographer and set director Belinda Murphy.
The studio is looking for applicants to provide a dance CV along with headshot photos, dance reel, location (nearest city) phone number and email address.
It is planned that casting meetings will be held in Dublin, Cork and several other cities from March.
The Walt Disney Studios encompasses a collection of respected film studios, including Disney, Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar Animation Studios, Marvel Studios, Lucasfilm, 20th Century Studios, Searchlight Pictures, and Blue Sky Studios. It is also home to Disney Theatrical Productions, producer of world-class stage shows.
Meanwhile, Halbrick Productions are expected to start filming in West Cork and other parts of the country also during the summer. It is not known who is starring in the movie which is being mooted to have attracted a major star to the cast.
