A viable device has been discovered in Galway city.

The Army Bomb Disposal Team removed the item from Knocknacarra at around 10.35pm on Friday for further examination.

No further details about the incident have been made public.

The Garda has urged anyone who encounters suspicious items, or hazardous substances, to maintain a safe distance and inform the force.
