Five suspected pipe bombs have been made safe in Co Offaly.

Gardaí called the Army Bomb Disposal Team to investigate suspect devices at a premises on the Dublin Road in Edenderry just after 9pm last night.

A number of nearby buildings were evacuated.

Five suspected pipe-bombs were identified, made safe and removed for further examination.

The team left the scene just after 11pm.
