Young siblings in ringworm misdiagnosis receive settlements of €40k and €10k respectively

A consultant dermatologist misdiagnosed ringworm in two children as seborrhoeic dermatitis of the scalp and as a result prescribed an inappropriate treatment which added to their discomfort and pain, the Circuit Civil Court was told today.
Judge Kathryn Hutton heard that Galway-based Dr Taj Shaikh had made a settlement offer of €40,000 to seven-year-old Jay Slevin, of Horseleap, Moate, Co Westmeath, and an offer of €10,000 to his 11-year-old sister Aimee.
