The Supreme Court has dismissed an appeal by local residents over An Bord Pleanála’s approval for the first phase of tech giant Apple’s planned €850m data centre in Athenry.

The Supreme Court has dismissed an appeal by two local residents over An Bord Pleanála’s approval for the first phase of an €850m data centre in Athenry, plans for which have been since abandoned, by tech giant Apple.

Despite Apple's decision not to proceed with the project, the five-judge court agreed to decide the appeal because of its implications for the Board’s consideration of other data centre developments.
