Elderly woman dies in Cork fire

An 86-year-old woman has died in a fire at her apartment in Youghal, County Cork.

The alarm was raised when smoke was spotted coming from an upstairs room in a building on North Main Street.

Fire crews responded but were unable to resuscitate the elderly woman who had been living alone.

Her body has been removed to Cork University Hospital.

A post mortem will be carried out tomorrow.
