The proposed referendum to remove references in the Constitution to a woman’s place being in the home will be debated early next month by TDs and senators amid a rush to get the green light for the vote.

Disagreement exists over whether the clause in the Constitution should be deleted; replaced by a gender-neutral phrase; or instead refer to carers in the home. The Government is proposing a straight deletion.
