Gardaí have made a fresh appeal for information from the public about the whereabouts of two men wanted for questioning about the killing of Limerick detective garda Jerry McCabe in 1996.

Four IRA gang members were convicted of his manslaughter, however, gardaí said they still want to speak to two men they suspect were also involved.

Detective McCabe was posthumously awarded the Freedom of Limerick last night.

The father of five was shot dead 22 years ago this month as he and a colleague escorted a cash and mail van at Adare in Co Limerick.

His partner, retired detective garda Ben O'Sullivan, was also awarded the Freedom of Limerick.
