The Depaul Charity helped move nearly 600 homeless people to more permanent accommodation last year.

Its Assertive Engagement programme works with people who are in emergency or night-time only hostels by assigning them a project worker.

They are then guaranteed a bed as long as they stay in contact with the worker, who will help them apply for housing or HAP schemes and professional treatment.

Last year, the programme helped 419 people move on to Supported Temporary Accommodation, with the remainder moved to other accommodation such as rented homes, detox centres and family homes.
