Taoiseach: There is a strong case to keep mobile cath-lab in Waterford
A mobile cath-lab at University Hospital Waterford may be kept in place, according to the Taoiseach Leo Varadkar.
Mr Varadkar has said the unit has shown positive results, however, it is due to be removed next week.
Junior Minister and Waterford TD John Halligan has argued the results of the temporary lab show a permanent one is needed for the south-east.
In the Dáil the Taoiseach suggested it should stay open longer.
He said: "It does seem that the second mobile cath-lab does produce results and reduce waiting times for patients who need cardiac procedures.
"It would seem to me that there is a strong case to keep it in place, while the review on the location of cath-labs across the country is taking place."
