A doctor in Northern Ireland, who is the 27-year-old son of a woman who was found dead in Belfast at the weekend, has been remanded in custody today after being charged with murdering his mother.

A doctor in Northern Ireland, who is the 27-year-old son of a woman who was found dead in Belfast at the weekend, has been remanded in custody today after being charged with murdering his mother.

Anne O’Neill, 51, was found dead at a house in Ardmore Avenue, Finaghy, in the early hours of Saturday morning.

According to Belfast based newspapers, the Irish News and Belfast Telegraph, Declan Kevin O’Neill, 27, will face one count of murdering Mrs O’Neill.

Declan O’Neill, who denies the charge, appeared before Belfast Magistrates’ Court today dressed in a grey sweatshirt and trousers.

According to reports when asked if he understood the allegation against him the doctor at a hospital in Belfast he simply nodded and replied "Yes."

District Judge Fiona Bagnall remanded the accused in custody to appear again by video-link in four weeks time.

A second man, aged 23, was released on police bail late on Monday pending further inquiries.
