Latest: Gardaí recover knife in investigation into woman's killing

Update 1.32pm: A knife has been recovered in the investigation into an attack on a woman in Dublin last night.

Gardaí believe the knife was used during the attack, according to RTÉ.

Update - 10.52am: The Garda Technical Bureau is examining the scene in Dublin where a woman was killed last night.

The 37-year-old French woman died, and her 35-year-old Brazilian partner is in hospital, after a suspected domestic incident.

The scene at the Dorset Square Apartments remains sealed off ahead of an examination by the State Pathologist.

Local Councillor Neil Ring says it is an upsetting incident to see.

He said: "In this particular area, Dorset Square, it is off the beaten track, so to speak. There seems to be, from my knowledge of the area, a lot of foreign nationals live there.

"They keep themselves to themselves and in a way that's sad, because nobody heard anything or there doesn't seem to be any neighbours who have heard anything at all."

Earlier: A murder investigation has been launched after a woman has died in Dublin's north inner city.

Gardaí in Mountjoy were called at around 11.30pm last night to an incident at Dorset Square Apartments.

When they arrived they discovered a 37-year-old woman and 35-year-old man with serious injuries.

Both were treated at scene by Dublin Fire Brigade.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene and her body remains at the scene.

The man was taken to the Mater hospital where his injuries are described as serious.

The scene has been preserved for a Forensic examination by the Technical Bureau and the State Pathologist has also been notified.

Witnesses or anyone with any information is asked to contact Mountjoy Garda station on 01 6668600, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
