Update - 11.41am: Ruth Kiely, Vice President of the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists, outlined what people can do to alleviate the effects of sitting down for long periods of their day.

She said: "If they're sitting and their job entails sitting for prolonged periods of time, they must get up and get moving, get active.
