Householders may soon be allowed to install signal repeaters to boost mobile phone signals in blackspot areas of the country.

The proposal is one of 40 actions included in a Government plan aimed at improving mobile and broadband coverage.

A Broadband Officer would also be appointed in each local authority area to help streamline the upgrading of internet access.

However, Fianna Fáil has criticised the pace of change - saying many communities will still have to wait until 2023 to access high-quality broadband.
