It will be a memorable Christmas for a Cork family after they claimed a cheque for €101,947 which they won in the Lotto draw on Wednesday, November 30.

The family who wish to keep their win private bought their winning Quick Pick ticket at the Gala Store in Innishannon, Co. Cork, on the day of the draw, and won the prize after matching five numbers plus the bonus number.

The father of the family said the win could not have come at a better time.

He said: "With Christmas just around the corner, there couldn’t have been a better time to win this prize."

His wife added: "We’re going to have an amazing Christmas and for once, not worry about the money.

"After that, all of the money will be set aside for the kids for their college expenses over the next couple of years."

They admitted that they were not sure how much they had won.

The father said: "I had the ticket in my wallet for nearly a week before we checked it. When I had it checked in the shop, I was still unsure of how much we had won.

"We called the National Lottery and I thought I might have won just over a thousand euro and I could collect the prize in the local post office. We just could not believe it when we were told we had won over €100,000."

There were two winners of the Lotto Match 5 + Bonus prize of €101,947 on Wednesday, November 30. The other winning ticket, which has already been claimed, was sold at the Daybreak Store in Lanesborough, Co. Roscommon.
