Wexford driver 'deliberately drove into traffic warden helping children across the road'

It appears that a growing number of Irish motorists are prone to 'lollipop rage'.

School traffic wardens have seen a surge in verbal and even physical assaults, according to figures from County Councils across the country.

In one case in Co Wexford, a motorist deliberately drove into a traffic warden as they helped school children to cross the road.

Freedom of Information data published in today's Sunday Business Post reveals that formal complaints lodged by wardens have doubled since 2010.

The biggest number of complaints were about drivers in the Dun Laoghaire Rathdown area.
