Footage emerges of John Gilligan partying in Portlaoise prison

Exclusive footage of former drug lord John Gilligan making the most of his time spent in Portlaoise prison has been uncovered by TV3 documentary ‘Paul Williams: State of Fear’.

The footage, which dates back to before 2006, shows Gilligan laughing, joking and dancing alongside some of Ireland’s most dangerous criminals, including killer John Daly, who was in prison for armed robbery and who famously phoned RTÉs radio show ‘Liveline’ from a mobile phone in his prison cell.

Also dancing with Gilligan in the footage is Brian Rattigan, the leader of one of the gangs involved in the notorious Crumlin/Drimnagh feud.

They are flanked by gang boss Christy Keane, while Shay Wildes, who killed father-of-five in Tallaght on St Stephen’s Day, 2001, is seen singing into a microphone on stage.

The second and concluding episode of Paul Williams: State of Fear, to be shown at 10pm on Tuesday night.

The programme will see Paul Williams continue to tell the story of Veronica Guerin’s murder and the ensuing investigations into the Gilligan gang.
