Flight diverted to Cork Airport with ill passenger

A holiday flight has turned around over the Atlantic and diverted to Cork Airport with an ill passenger, writes Patrick Flynn.

Norwegian Air flight IBK-6423 was over two and half hours into its journey from Oslo in Norway to Tenerife in the Canary Islands.

The Irish registered Boeing 737-800 jet was about 250 kilometres south of Cork when the crew declared a medical emergency shortly before 7.00pm.

The flight was cleared to divert to Cork where it landed safely at 7.27pm.

The aircraft was met at the terminal by ambulance paramedics and passenger has been removed to hospital for treatment.

Earlier this month, another Tenerife bound flight turned around over the ocean and diverted to Cork.

The French Post flight, operated by ASL Airlines France, was almost 400 kilometres south of Cork when the crew declared a medical emergency and diverted.
