Cyclist dies in collision with car in Co Westmeath

A male cyclist in his 70s has been killed in a crash in County Westmeath.

His bicycle was involved in a collision with a car on the N52, just north of Mullingar, at 3.45pm this afternoon.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body has been removed to Midlands Regional Hospital.

The female driver of the car, who was in her 70s, was uninjured.

The road will remain closed overnight to allow for a forensic examination and Gardaí are appealing for witnesses.
