Three Irish war veterans were given the French Legion of Honour at a Remembrance Sunday ceremony at Glasnevin Cemetery in Dublin.

The medal, which is the highest French order for military and civil merits, was presented to the former soldiers for their service during the second world war to liberate France from Nazi Germany.

Albert Sutton, who's originally from Dublin and turns 95 this month, received the medal for his work with the Royal Air Force.

Mr Sutton says he can't believe he's been awarded the French Legion of Honour.

"They've been very good to me the Army here. I can't get over the reception I've got. I thought I was an ordinary RAF man but I volunteered and it's the best thing I ever did."
