A 47-year-old pedestrian has died following a traffic collision in Dublin.

A 47-year-old pedestrian has died following a traffic collision in Dublin.

Gardaí say the man was struck by a car on Shelbourne Road on the city's southside just after midnight.

He was treated by emergency services personnel but was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

The driver of the car was uninjured.

A forensic examination is taking place and the Shelbourne Road between Bath Avenue and Lansdowne Road is currently closed to traffic.

The body of the deceased has been removed to the city mortuary and the coroner has been notified.
