Homelessness and drug use to 'get worse before it gets better'

Homelessness and drugs use has reached unprecedented levels on our streets according to a new report.

Support service Merchants Quay Ireland says the economic recovery hasn't filtered down to those most in need as of yet.

CEO Tony Geoghegan says over 7,500 people accessed its homeless services in 2015.

“Unfortunately the situation is getting worse and our concern is that things are going to get worse before they get better.

“The Government do have plans and they do have action plans a lot of them are predecated on new bills and building units, but all of those things take time and we do need emergency interventions in the interim.”
