What's Ireland's top-selling brand?
Coca-Cola is once again Ireland's biggest selling brand, for the 12th year in a row.
The annual list of the best selling grocery brands - the Checkout Top 100 Brands - has been published today and again shows a strong performance by home-grown Irish brands.
Cadbury Dairy Milk is in second place, closely followed by Brennans, with Avonmore and Tayto rounding out the top five.
Other notable Irish brands have achieved their highest position ever, including Hunky Dorys in 27th, Glenisk in 32nd and Keelings in 33rd.
For the purposes of the list 'Coca Cola' includes Coke, Diet Coke, Coke Zero and new brand Coke Life.
Checkout Magazine Editor Jenny Whelan said Irish people were very brand loyal.
"Own-label products wouldn’t perform as strongly (in Ireland) as in other countries like Germany or Spain," she said.
"We feel a lot of nostalgia in our brands. Some of these brands are ones we grew up with. It's about loyalty to an Irish brand."
The Checkout Top 100 Brands list is based on sales across a 12-month period.
Other Irish brands performing well on this year’s list include Jacob’s (9th), Dairygold (14th), soft drinks brand Club (16th), Pat the Baker (21st), and Irish Pride (22nd).
Brands that have achieved all-time highs in this year’s list include Wrigley’s Extra, which rises to 8th, yoghurt brand Yoplait, which enters the top ten (10th) and Innocent juice (36th).
Heineken leads Top 50 alcohol brands list for the third year in a row, while Santa Rita cements its place as Ireland’s biggest selling wine, topping the Top 20 Wines List. Smirnoff continues to lead the Top 20 Spirits list.
This year also sees the battle for Ireland’s favourite cuppa heat up, as Barry’s Tea (24th) overtakes Lyons Tea (29th ) for the first time.
