Man critically ill after assault in Co Leitrim

A 30-year-old man has been left in a critical condition following a serious assault in Co Leitrim.

The man was rushed to Sligo University Hospital after he was found lying unconscious on Main Street in Carrick-on-Shannon early early Sunday morning.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to an altercation between the man and a group of people at about 4am.

Gardaí have interviewed a number of witnesses and are reviewing CCTV covering the area.

Gardaí in Carrick on Shannon are anxious to talk to anyone who may have picked up a group of people around 4am in the Main Street or Bridge Street area of the town this morning.
