Man dies, another in hospital, after car collides with van in Co Longford

A man in his 30s has died after the car he was driving was in a collision with a van in Co Longford this morning.

The accident happened on the N4 between Edgeworthstown and Rathowen, on the border between county Longford and county Westmeath this morning at around 6am.

The man was alone in the car at the time and was pronounced dead at scene.

The van driver was brought to Midland Regional Hospital, Tullamore, with serious non-life threatening injuries.

A section of the N4 has been closed for a forensic examination and diversions are in place.
