Latest: 240 additional migrants have boarded the LÉ Róisín.

The Irish naval ship assisted an Italian naval vessel where the crew successfully cross loaded the migrants.

Earlier 125 refugees were rescued when the Italian Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre requested help from the LE Roisin.

The group of 365 migrants are en route a Port of Safety in Sicily.

Ealier: 125 refugees have been rescued by the Irish navy off the Libyan coast.

The Italian Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre requested assistance from the LE Roisin, after spotting a rubber craft 40 miles north east of Tripoli.

107 men and 18 women have been taken aboard the LE Roisin - they're being given food, water and medical treatment.

The group of migrants will be taken ashore in due course.

Earlier: The LÉ Róisín is involved in a rescue operation in the Mediterranean this afternoon.

It is understood the Irish Naval ship has taken a number of refugees on board.

A spokesperson for the Defence Forces said that the operation is on-going.

The LÉ Róisín was deployed to the Mediterranean at the start of this month.
