Stand up to answer the phone at work - one tip to a healthier work day

People are being reminded to be aware of their diet and exercise levels, as part of National Workplace Wellbeing Day.

A recent survey shows that 42% of people are totally, or extremely, inactive during their workday.

The survey was carried out by Behaviour and Attitudes on 966 employees in January and February of this year.

Dietician Dr Muireann Cullen said: "You could go in a few minutes earlier and have a breakfast in work as part of your routine of settling into work."

"We can be sluggish in the mornings, but having something to eat in the morning will help restore energy levels and get the system going, which means we will perform better at work as well."

She added that finding simple ways to increase activity in the workplace was key.

"Even standing up to answer the phone means you'll burn more calories. It's about making small changes that are sustainable," she said.
