Interconnector pylons 'would devalue property by €600m', claims pressure group

The construction of the North - South interconnector would see huge devaluation of property and damage to heritage sites, according to the North East Pylon Pressure group.

The proposed construction would see 400 pylons built on a route from Meath to Tyrone.

Speaking following oral hearings into the construction yesterday, Amy Treacy from the NEPP said that the pylons would be disastrous for the region.

"There would be several hundred million, in the region of 600 million devaluation of property along the whole route," she said.

"The impact on our landscape - it's just phenomenal. These pylons - they're great monsters that can be seen several kilometres away.

"And also out cultural heritage. We pride ourselves with Meath being the Royal County, Cavan and Monaghan with the drumlins - all of that would be completely destroyed."
