Body recovered during search for missing man
A body has been recovered in Co Clare where a massive search had been taking place for a missing man since Saturday.
The discovery was made at around 11.20am today at Quay Island in the Shannon Estuary south of Bunratty.
A multi-agency search was mounted on Saturday afternoon amid concerns for a local man aged in his 50s.
The locally based Bunratty Search and Rescue unit launched a search of the area assisted by dozens of locals.
On Sunday morning, the Shannon-based search and rescue helicopter joined the search.
Volunteers from the Killaloe, Doolin and Kilkee units of the Irish Coast Guard were also brought in to help.
Later, members of Clare Civil Defence and the Limerick Land Search Team joined the operation while the Kilrush RNLI lifeboat was also tasked to the scene to carry out a water search.
The search was called off this morning following confirmation that a body had been discovered.
The person was pronounced dead at the scene by a doctor and later removed to University Hospital Limerick where a postmortem will take place.
