Luas strike continues for fourth day

Luas commuters face a fourth day of disruption as SIPTU drives down tools in the ongoing pay dispute.

It is the second 48-hour shut down - with further stoppages scheduled for next month - including St Patrick's Day.

Staff want wage hikes of up to 54%- over five years.

However, Eoin Reidy from SIPTU has said workers at the company are willing to negotiate: There’s been a lot of talk about this 53-54%.

“The Luas over the past five years has generated increases in revenues of over 30% yet the workers have had only one increase in that period of time of 2½%.

“While it is an ambitious opening position that the workers have compiled and put together, they are very much prepared to negotiate.”
