Body found in slurry pit was that of missing man Diarmuid Twomey
Gardaí have confirmed the body found in a slurry pit in Cork is that of missing man Diarmuid Twomey.
The body was recovered from a slurry pit yesterday on a farm in Rahaniskey in the Whitechurch area of Co Cork.
Mr Twomey, 31, had been missing since just before Christmas. He was last seen on December 20.
He was last seen in the early hours of that morning near Fairhill, Gurranabraher in Cork at 3am. His phone was later found outside at house at Ballynahina, Cork at about 11.30am.
He planned to take a taxi from a relative’s house home to Ballinahina but he decided to instead walk instead towards Blackstone bridge, and was not seen again.
Mr Twomey's partner Ciara said she had told the couple's two young daughters Lily (aged 3) and Katie (aged 2) that "Daddy is lost".
A post mortem was due to take place today of the body. Gardaí do not suspect that foul play was involved, and are investigating whether his death was a tragic accident. Initial indications are that Mr Twomey drowned.
