Right2Water protests kick off across the country

The first in a nationwide series of protests against water charges are underway.

30 protests are taking place in 21 counties today, with the biggest in Dublin city centre from 2pm.

The Right2Water Campaign, which is organising the demonstrations, has said it wants to keep the issue on the agenda ahead of the General Election.

David Gibney of Right2Water has said the nationwide rallies are the first of a series of events: “It’s the beginning of three events that the right2water campaign have planned in the run up to the election.

“Today, 30 different locations all over the country will have tens of thousands of people on the streets saying once again to this Government who are refusing to listen to protestors that water charges are unfair and what we want is to go back to paying for our water through general taxation which is progressive and fair.”
