Gardaí investigate after elderly man dies in car accident that also puts woman in hospital

Gardaí in Monaghan are investigating after a 68-year-old man died in a road crash at Aghalisk yesterday.

The two-car crash happened on the N54 Monaghan to Clones Road, about two miles outside Monaghan town, at around 6.30pm.

The man, who was driving one of the cars, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A woman driving the other car, received minor injuries and was taken to Cavan General Hospital for treatment.

The road is currently closed to facilitate an examination of the scene and is expected to remain closed until at least this afternoon with local traffic diversions in place.
