Crisis meeting on Shannon flooding set to take place
A crisis meeting is due in Government Buildings today of all the State agencies with responsibility for the River Shannon.
Enda Kenny will also hear suggestions for flood relief from Cabinet ministers at their first meeting of the New Year.
The meeting of Shannon agencies today will examine interim solutions for over 60 communities along the Shannon which are vulnerable in the meantime.
The water levels on Lough Ree are now at an all-time high.
The ESB, Bord na Mona, the National Park and Wildlife Service and Waterways Ireland are among the agencies that will attend today's meeting.
Further wet weather is expected tomorrow, however Met Éireann has said we can expect "normal" rain amounts for this time of year.
