ESB to increase water flow to Cork from Inniscarra Dam

ESB has advised that flows from Inniscarra Dam will increase to 180 cumecs (cubic metres per second) this evening, Thursday December 17, from 165 cumecs.

Inflows into the Lee Dam reservoirs have increased following overnight rain.

"This was the level of flow from the dam (180 cumecs) between December 6 and 12 following Storm Desmond.

"It will have an increase of associated flooding to roads, land and property adjacent to the banks of the River Lee downstream of Inniscarra.

"We continue to closely monitor the situation and are in communication with the local authorities and response agencies in accordance with our normal operating procedures."

As a consequence, in addition to the Lee Road area, the City Council is advising that there is a need for increased levels of preparedness for flooding on the Carrigrohane Road and adjacent properties.

Traffic diversions will be in place as required.

Flooding is not anticipated for Cork City Centre.
