Abortion laws 'too restrictive' says Leo Varadkar

The laws around abortion in Ireland are too restrictive, according to the Health Minister.

Leo Varadkar said that the laws with regard to the health of mothers and fatal foetal abnormalities need to be looked at.

However he said he will not be lobbying his Fine Gael colleagues on the issue: “I think that it is something that people have to consider themselves, understand themselves and talk about with their family and friends,

“It’s a very divisive issue, that we shouldn’t just pretend is just going to go away.”
