European Parliament to table urgent motion for release of Ibrahim Halawa

The European Parliament has agreed to table an urgent motion for resolution calling for the release of Ibrahim Halawa.

The Dublin teenager was arrested in Egypt in August 2013 following a protest in Cairo and is facing his 10th mass trial next Tuesday.

The Resolution which will be heard in Strasbourg on Thursday claims that everyone is entitled to a fair and public hearing by an independent and impartial tribunal.

Sean Kelly MEP is hopeful that there will be a positive outcome for Ibrahim and his family; “Well I know the Irish Government has been working very hard with the Egyptian authorities,

“And I think that the combination of pressure from the Irish Government and the European Parliament, hopefully will bring a satisfactory resolution to this problem and get Ibrahim returned to his family as soon as possible.”
