INMO deny ‘conspiracy theory’ of political motivation behind their strike action

The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation has denied it has timed strike action to coincide with a General Election campaign.

Talks between nurses and the HSE on overcrowding collapsed last night, meaning a strike is almost certain to go ahead next week.

Emergency department nurses will begin two hour rolling work stoppages at seven hospitals from Tuesday.

Deputy General Secretary of the INMO Dave Hughes has said there is no political motivation to the campaign.

“No that’s a conspiracy theory,” said Hughes.

“We don’t time action for General Elections, we don’t. The problem that this dispute is about is the appalling conditions in our emergency departments.

“Which see not enough nurses to look after the patients and no ability to recruit nurses into those departments.”
