Flood relief efforts continue in Clare and Limerick

The River Shannon burst its banks last night as more heavy rain hit the areas worst affected by Storm Desmond at the weekend.

Flood relief efforts are continuing in counties Clare and Limerick, with many homes and businesses severely damaged.

The ESB has said local authorities will be kept fully informed about any release of water from the Parteen Weir over the weekend.

There are fears the release would cause flooding in a number of areas around the counites.

The army has been deployed to the region to help local authorities.

Met Éireann has said there may be some respite from rain and wind today.

However, further stormy conditions are expected over the weekend.
