One in six 3-year-olds taken to hospital with injury new report states
A new public health report claims that one in six 3-year-olds has been taken to hospital with an injury.
The findings, based on a Growing Up In Ireland study four years ago, also show that boys are more likely to get hurt than girls.
In particular, health officials say the results point to a trend of accidents among children from lower socioeconomic backgrounds.
But senior statistical analyst Jude Cosgrove has said they have not found a reason for that: “Now unfortunately the survey didn’t asked the parents where the child was injured or what type of injury they got,
“So that is one piece of information that we are really planning on chasing up next year to try and look at other data sources to try and fill in the gaps with this.
“There is valuable data out there and it is a case of looking at it all together to get some of those answers.”
