It has emerged that an intruder was arrested at the weekend after gaining unauthorised access to the area around Government Buildings, less than 36 hours after the attacks in Paris.

It has emerged that an intruder was arrested at the weekend after gaining unauthorised access to the area around Government Buildings, less than 36 hours after the attacks in Paris.

The man was detained in the courtyard in front of Government Buildings in the early hours of Sunday morning. The area is subject to 24-hour security by gardaí.

The man appeared in court on Monday morning, charged with trespassing, and was remanded on bail to appear again next month.

It is understood the man did not intend to cause harm.
