Father whose son died 22 minutes after birth in Portlaoise Hospital welcomes patient-safety measures

One of the families at the centre of the Portlaoise baby deaths scandal has welcomed new measures for patient safety.

Patient advocate groups say that they largely welcome the changes, but warned they need to be followed through on.
Mark Molloy - whose son died just 22 minutes after being born in Portlaoise Hospital - said he hoped the changes would prevent any repeat of what his family went through.
He said: "These are all the elements that unfortunately were happening before Mark died. There had been a number of incidents in Portlaoise and it wasn't pulled together to spot that there was potentially a problem there.
"Now that's all in place so that, fingers crossed, we don’t have to face anything like this again."
